Ecological Food Manufacturers Association

Ecological Food Foundation

The big picture of developing a trade association devoted to understanding and educating members, industry and consumers about ecological foods and beverages includes a vision to build a foundation. The Ecological Food Foundation (EFF) will be the quiet "work horse" in the background, where research and communication can flow freely as a result of a well funded organization.

EFF will be a 501(c)(3 ), educational corporation. The purpose of EFF will be to conduct research and publish findings about sustainable food and beverage manufacturing practices. EFF communications will identify consumer concerns and foster the development of more ecologically sustainable foods and beverages.

EFF will have five main audiences:

  • Consumers
  • Food and Beverage Manufacturing Industry
  • Communications Companies (both consumer and trade publications in print and digital forms of content)
  • Schools and Colleges
  • Government

Sources of funding for EFF will come from EFMA, public and private grants, donations and possibly through other marketing efforts by EFF management.

Core Values of the EFF:

  • Food should be nutritious, natural and wholesome.
  • Food is the least expensive medicine to prevent disease. Some medical experts feel foods can cure disease. The cost of treating and curing unhealthful and unecological food related disease is unknown. Still, the cost is high.
  • Agriculture and food processing should not be seen as two different things. An unhealthy paradigm is developed when food companies operate strictly as a corporation serving stock holders, without paying attention to the "triple bottom line," i.e. with regard to the environment and social issues, in addition to economic growth.
  • The term "green" may very well be obsolete within a few years, as it becomes known simply as the "correct" way to do things. Naturally, there is a correct way to develop, produce and distribute food products. The EFF has been created to help navigate the course to ecological food development.
  • The food and agricultural industry is one of the largest consumers of energy and resources, and also one of the largest producers of waste, and greenhouse gases. EFF is dedicated to learning how to solve these problems.
